Necklace DIY: beads

my friend Amber had on this adorable necklace the other day and I wanted one soooo bad.
I set out to find beads to make my own... unfortunately I am in Grenada.
but I was was mostly successful!
the selection and colors was very, very limited, but I found a few that I thought looked good together.

this necklace is easy peasy.
it is 4 individual strands tied together and then all tied to the main strand.
& I used the big wooded bead to cover up my knots :)

thanks Amber for the inspiration!

Color Duo: Pink and Yellow

I was inspired by a hibiscus flower I saw in the Grenada rain forest for this color combination.
One of the great things about living in Grenada is the abundance of flowers. inspiration abounds!

I thought pink and yellow would be a fun combo to look at outside of nurseries.  That's what I think of when I hear pink and yellow - babies.
to me, pink and yellow work best when combined with white or gray.
either contemporary & cool or cottage & cozy.
oh and there's the vintage look that I love too.
Let's look at pink and yellow all grown up.

ok so not too grown up. love Kate Spade.

this is so fresh and fun

decorating with paper #1

I love paper.
I may need to come up with a new word because I "love" way way way too many things it seems. what I really love is -Jesus, my husband, my family, my friends, and this beautiful earth we are so blessed to enjoy and explore.

now that my priorities are in line.... I do really fancy paper.
mostly printed paper.
magazines, books, newspaper...
the possibilities are endless!

here is one way to get creative with paper.
paper roses.
they are so beautiful and so easy!
here's how:
cut a sheet of paper (I used magazine) in a spiral. as long as you want.
if you want you can draw a spiral out on the paper before cutting, but it's not necessary.
I'm an on the fly kinda girl, I do things my way and not very instructional.
don't worry about making it perfectly straight or even, it will add character to the rose.

then start rolling up the paper keeping the bottom tight and allowing the top to kind of fan out.
add a dab of glue (I used a glue stick) as you go to keep if from unraveling

once it's all rolled up it should look like a rose!  be careful not too roll it too tight, keep it organic and whimsical :)
wha-la!

I want to make a ton and do something similar to this.

I have SO many other paper projects I've done that I want to share, but I have to pace myself.... right?

it ain't easy being green.

I felt like such a child all day.  I dressed up head to toe [k not toe, if I had access to my America closet I'd totally have green shoes] in green!  I love a good holiday and a reason to dress up!

I spent the morning with a friend on the beach, in my green bathing suit
went to the grocery with my green bag
made green snacks and games for the kids at my after school program
may or may not have worn green earrings, necklace, headband, and clothes.
drank 3 glasses of green tea
AND saw 2 rainbows!!

magazine cut outs, all things green.
adorable little leprechauns.  hat made out of construction paper
popcorn cake, again!! I couldn't help it. it's so easy to make green!
cucumbers and celery. the kids HATED celery. haha don't think they'd ever had it.
green juice
and my bedroom is green. oh apartment living.

pears please

I've recently discovered that I love pears, not just to eat, but the look of them
lucky for me I discovered this when I'm on an island in the Caribbean that doesn't grow pears and they are $5 a piece in the store.... and NOT when I lived on a farm in Ohio with 2 pear trees.
typical.

I'll just love these pears from afar.
and they're green!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!

I have a love/hate relationship with Martha Stewart.

I think this will be my next project... if I can't have a real pear I'll draw/cut some out!!

I love every single thing about this photo.  the green chest is gorgeous. and so is the chair. and I will never get enough of apothecary jars.  mine are stored away in Ohio :(

oh books!
