Felt Friends

I have been going a little felt crazy lately... I made about a 100 flowers this Christmas and gave away as gifts as hair clips, broaches, shoe clips, etc.

I found a little bunny in a book and decided to try my hand at making one myself on Sunday afternoon.
I did it all by hand, I tried to make one with the machine but it didn't turn out so well, I think my tension was too tight and it didn't work well with the felt... at least that's what I think.
It didn't take long to make and then I began receiving requests from my nieces :)

I think these little critters would be great made out of an old sweater, what do you think??
Have you ever chopped up a sweater?  I may be raiding the $1 bin at Salvation Army soon....
Happy Monday!

The Cotton Anniversary

Yesterday my precious husband and I celebrated 2 years of marriage, and today we're already working on year 3!
Since we're on a super tight budget holidays and celebrations are quite creative around our household and I am so blessed to have a husband who actually put thought and time into what he wanted to do for me... even if it didn't turn out quite right.

He attempted to make me cotton candy.
at home. in Grenada.
that sweet wonderful man.

I love cotton candy probably much more than the average girl... and since it was the "cotton" anniversary it was perfect!
except Grenada is the most humid place on earth. kinda like living in a sauna.

He was so excited to do a DIY project with me & we had a blast covering our entire kitchen in sugar :)

preparing the solution... I was still clueless as to what he was making.

see it's working!!

but once we started rolling it it turned sticky :/

still delicious though! so we ate it like suckers!

the little sugar droplets on the floor....
So what if the cotton candy didn't turn out exactly right? we still had a ton of fun... and got some cotton candy flavored hard candy out of it :)

I love that he wanted to do something a bit crazy and diy for me & I did something practical & useful for him, so like us!

I sewed him a new pillowcase because just last week his tore... and I mean, tore beyond repair.  He's a rowdy sleeper.

My friend Cat was a genius and brought a little sewing machine down to Grenada and let me try it out!
I found this green fabric in town for $6.95EC a yard (about $3US) and 1 yard was plenty to make a pillow case!

The pillow case is nothing spectacular... a rectangle.
But I did dress it up by using teal thread and sorta monogramming his name on it!

I remembered to take a picture after he had already slept on it! ha!

Lee ♥ done with the sewing machine. lol. would have been better off hand stitching it.
but o well! life is an adventure.
Here are a few wedding pictures I picnik'd this week.

Happy Anniversary my Lee!! I love you more than words can describe.

t-shirt re-style

This is by probably the easiest, quickest thing I've ever done to an article of clothing with the most impact.
I saw this picture on pinterest and knew I wanted to try it.

I have so many clothes here in Grenada that I'm absolutely sick of.  I've worn the same things for 2 years now. boring.
I clicked the link over to  Crafter Hours. (cute name eh?)
who quickly said this wasn't her idea, rather she got it from http://upcyclededucation.blogspot.com/

I went into the bedroom, grabbed the first tee shirt I saw, and a pair of scissors.
I didn't take a before picture of me wearing the shirt because I was too excited about the end result to even think about blogging about it.

There is a  funny story behind this tee shirt.  I bought it at Gabriel Brothers for $1 in the men's section (4 years ago) and liked it so much I bought one for my husband (then boyfriend)  and promised I'd never wear it on the same day as him.  haha. although we have both played tricks on each other by putting it on after we already know the other is wearing it.  and when he saw me cutting it up this morning he was sad, even if he likes to pretend that he hates having the same shirt as me.  but whatever, I totally girl-ified it!

I only varied slightly from the original tutorial and I would recommend using a tee shirt that is on the bigger side, not a form fitting one, I almost made this one too tight.

& our college's colors were blue and green.
skies of blue
fields of green
I pledge my love MVNU :)

First cut the sleeves off and then cut straight across the top under the collar.
Then (no picture) fold the top down about 1 inch and do a straight stitch across leaving  space to feed through a strap, I hand sewed it but if would be super quick with a machine.

For the strap I used the shirt's original collar, cutting it once to break the circle and make it one long strip.
I then fed it through with a kitchen skewer, or you could use a pencil.

This is what it looked like once it was fed through the front of the shirt.
Repeat with the back and re-sew the collar together and tuck it into the back seem to hide the stitches.

love the new neckline!

I couldn't wait 5 minutes to find a better location to take a picture or to put on some make up.
welcome to my impulsive life.

I already have 5 other tee shirt lined up to get a similar treatment!
With one of my bigger shirts (since I'll have more fabric) I'm going to make braided straps. fancy shmancy.

This is the perfect re-style to do in Grenada because it is so hot it is uncomfortable to wear shirts with sleeves, and if your shirt is stained... you just cut off the arm pits! I only wish I had thought of this sooner.
thanks pinterest!
